Behind the imagery

Behind the Arch.

My husband asked me, not long ago, what the arch picture on this website actually means. I’d drawn it as a feeling — warmth, welcome, something steady to walk through — so I went looking for a proper answer, and found that the arch has carried three meanings for a very long time. They read like a quiet description of everything I’d want Zest to stand for.

Concentric arches in sage and espresso rising toward a mustard sunburst, framed by a ring of terracotta dots — Zest's arch-and-sunburst signature.

01

Strength and support.

A stone arch stands because every stone leans into its neighbours — no single piece carries the weight alone, yet together they can hold for centuries. When I found Isaiah’s words, that was the shape I recognised: strength that arrives as presence, not noise. Something steady to lean on, that doesn’t move.

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

02

Bridging and connection.

An arch is how two sides that never touched finally meet — each half leaning toward the other until the gap becomes a crossing. Paul’s letter names that meeting reconciliation: God and humanity brought together, with nothing counted against us any more. I like that our arch is a doorway and not a wall.

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them.”

2 Corinthians 5:18–19

03

Protection and shelter.

The same curve that lets you in also stands between you and the weather — every gateway is a small shelter. Psalm 91 says it better than I can: a refuge, a fortress, a shadow to dwell in. Our arch is an open door, but it only means something because there is a home behind it.

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’”

Psalm 91:1–2

The arch carries this meaning for me now — and it felt right to write it down.
